What “Save Newlands Corner” seeks to ensure:
- Newlands Corner continues to be one of very few publicly accessible countryside sites free of charge to visitors, consistent with the enjoyment and understanding of the countryside and its flora and fauna – such understanding contributing to the well being and good mental and physical health of people of all ages, abilities and means. In particular, in the absence of regular public transport to Newlands Corner, the introduction of car parking charges would present a deterrent cost to those of limited financial means, including the elderly.
- The conservation and management of Newlands Corner keeps it in as natural a state as possible to retain its special character recognised by its status as in an “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” to include maintenance of the existing “all weather” paths, the car park, café and toilet facilities without extension or expansion of these.
- Nothing is done to restrict or impede the views from the present access roadway and car park, this including any location selected for coach parking.
- Newlands Corner is kept free from any more commercial activity or development than is presented by the current Visitor Centre, Café and toilet facilities. “Save Newlands Corner” opposes the introduction of parking charges to in any way subsidise commercial ventures that should to be entirely self-funding.
- The existing environment continues to present the best possible experience for all, including and play value for the young by encouraging use of imagination, resourcefulness and direct understanding of nature. Man made recreation facilities and equipment, perhaps based on natural materials, may be of value in urban locations but their use at Newlands Corner is not needed and would detract from the very understanding and enjoyment that nature provides better for itself. Additionally, the cost of such equipment would only add unnecessarily to ongoing maintenance and future renewal costs.
We continue to work hard in many areas to achieve the above goals. You can contact us using the ‘Contact Us’ link on the web site top menu. We welcome your feedback and thoughts.

I was horrified to learn of the proposed changes to Newlands Corner, why spoilt our local beauty spot with these changes? 1.Charging.2 Plans to build a restaurant over looking the beautiful view, which at the moment can be enjoyed by all,and not just by patrons of the restaurant!3There is no need to provide a coach park,as there is ampl space now.4.PLEASE do not spoil our view of the lovely countryside. There are many people who for one reason or another cannot walk far sit in there cars and enjoy the scenery.

Is it possible to publish a list of the email addresses for all SCC councillors, with a description of their wards, so that individuals can email their own councillor to object; also the relevant MP?

Hi Robert, We have added some information on the ‘How can you help the campaign’ post which has links on it to sites where you can find your locall councillor. It also has some suggested wording that you might like to use in your email or letters. https://savenewlandscorner.com/2016/02/01/how-can-you-help-the-campaign/

These are available on the SCC website. 10000 Surrey voters should make it plain to their Councillor that, regardless of how long they and their fathers before them may have voted for the Conservative majority, this will not happen next time. Majorities in each constituency are not that large so there will be upsets.

I can’t find any information about the required diversion of BW147, the North Downs Way, which runs through the centre of the proposed development, has this been considered?

I’ve just read an extremely helpful & enlightening note dropped through my letter box recently by John Oliver from Woodruff Ave, Guildford “Defend Newlands Corner”. Really helpful in understanding points & issues. I will be writing to all concerned expressing my opposition to this appalling plan from all sorts of perspectives: I cannot believe anyone in their right mind can be happy with this or why SCC think they can get away with what can only be described as an ill thought through vanity project. Just on the issue of the coach park which particularly incensed me, the turning into the car park is currently dangerous & to encourage additional movements & coaches is just stupid & ill conceived. One of my reasons for recently moving to the area from Thames Ditton was the beauty particularly of Albury Hill & its surrounds. This plan is clearly driven by people with total contempt for the all residents the beauty of the area with money making at the root of their plans. It would be helpful if Johns note can be attached to this site.

Please leave it alone. It’s a very special place .Children do not need any more artificial playgrounds and old people love to sit in their cars and enjoy the view. The existing cafe provides all that is needed very well.Have a donations box by all means but don’t keep the old and poor away by charging!
