Dodgy Figures Exposed
Councillor Goodman, leader of the project that wants to commercialise Newlands Corner, has stated, on many occasions, (including to support his business case to the SCC Cabinet), that 122,000 vehicles visit Newlands Corner every year. Campaigners have challenged these figures consistently, believing them to be far below the reality of the situation. Now, under the pressure of a Public Question at the Cabinet meeting on 26 April, he finally admitted that Newlands Corner is visited by 255,000 vehicles a year.
Why is this important? We don’t agree with parking charges at all but if they are to be imposed, this means that they do not need to be anywhere near as high as initially proposed to achieve the amount of money Councillor Goodman wants. In fact, they should be less than half of what he is proposing.
This is yet another example, in our opinion, of these proposals being put forward on the basis of very questionable statistics and a misplaced ideology.

I’d like to say I’m Shocked …
But sadly I’m not ..it seems to go with the territory, with Cllr Goodman ..

Cllr Mike Goodman’s Newsletter – May 23rd 2016
Questions I have regarding Cllr Goodman’s latest ‘ Newletter ‘ regarding Newlands Corner :
The ONLY way for the vast majority of people get to Newlands Corner is by vehicle .
No direct Bus Stop at Newlands Corner. unsafe by foot from Albury, or from Merrow – no safe footpaths )
as the ‘ very young STILL in ‘ Buggies ‘DON’T drive themselves …
Car Parking Fees will STILL effect them …
ALSO ..Shouldn’t those who care for those suffering Dementia, whether Carers, family, relatives. shouldn’t they have a reduced rate, Free Parking ?
I’m sure both the very young, and those suffering Dementia, plus their Carers will stay for longer than the ‘free’ ‘ 20 minutes ‘ ?
( ‘ 265 Acres =120 Football Pitches.. ‘ and ‘smooth, even surfaces ‘ – perhaps Cllr Goodman should move from Environmental Planning Committee – to the Parks and Recreation Committee .. ? )
Highway Improvements
This IS the first time that SCC & Cllr Goodman have mentioned the need for substantial Highway alterations to make the Entrance to Newlands Corner Safe to use ..and maintain a free flow of Traffic along the A25 .. either coming from Albury, Merrow, or Clandon.
Now apparently ‘extra funds ‘ has been found from a ‘ Guildford Local Committee ‘ ?
( this is the first mention I’ve heard of this ‘ Local Committee ‘ )
The work needed to make this a Safe Junction, and subsequent alterations to the A25 road to keep a free flow of traffic along the A25 would be Substantial..
I think Cllr Goodman and the SCC need to put forward there plans and the costs involved ..
I think the cost will be substantial .. probably in the tens, and thousands of Pounds ..
Probably much MORE than the Budget put forward for the re-development of Newlands Corner in total..
Where is this money coming from.. ? from which budget ..?
It IS quite clear .. the Entrance, and alterations to the A25 should be carried out FIRST .
BEFORE anything else, surely ..?
SWT :
New proposals regarding Surrey Wildlife Trust’s visitor’s Centre / ‘room ‘
(I) Now the Visitors centre is now going to be modified to accommodate new seating for eating under shelter
( ii) fresh reference to an Education ‘ room ‘ ? ( they should go to the Nowers Wood Site )
Now Surrey Wildlife Trust already HAVE an up to date, State of the art modern Education Centre at
Nower Wood, near Leatherhead. Surrey – their flagship site.
£600,000 was raised by SWT Members’ alone. (.and recently won a £363,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund )
It poses the question . Why not for Newlands Corner .. ??
The DORMICE ?
Why is their NO mention of the Dormice .. ? – a protected Species .. No mention..
( Has Natural England the Govt Agency who were due to survey Newlands Corner produced a Report..? – ARE they STILL to do the Dormouse Survey ..? )
The SCC , Cllr Goodman have been proven to act in a clandestine way, presenting ‘ fait accompli ‘ decisions to the general public, users of Newlands Corner..
Has he altered his approach .. in Any way ? – No I don’t think so.
